I'm writing this on the way back home after a very long day at the clinic. I forgot to bring my current read - The Therapist by B.A. Paris, and it was beginning to get a bit boring looking out of the window. The morning commute is always fun, the sun, the sky, the smell of coffee, the hustle and bustle and always, excitement for the day ahead. When it gets to the afternoon though, the commute is no longer enjoyable and all I need is to get back home and wind down.

I've been putting off writing a blog on my travel to Switzerland for a while now - simply because life has been lifeing, and I just couldn't find any time anywhere. However, it's super important that you make time for things that you enjoy and find purpose in. Exactly as I tell my clients going through depression, 'you need a balance of routine, pleasurable and necessary activities to break the vicious cycle, and enhance your mood'. In doing so, you're effectively giving yourself time to relax and focus on doing things that you enjoy, whilst also keeping up with work, paying bills, going to the gym, eating healthy and all of that! So, here we are now and I am super excited to write about Switzerland - a place that will be etched in my memory forever.

Being proposed to in Switzerland was a beautiful dream come true moment. The exact location was Belvoir Park located in Zurich, a private spot, with the right balance of calm and chaos, exactly how we had wanted it. Before Ricky popped the question, we had a lovely walk around the park, enjoying the views and taking in the moment. A few of my friends asked me, 'why Switzerland?' In all honesty, I don't know the answer to that. However, one thing that I know for sure is that I have always dreamt of visiting Switzerland, who hasn't? DDLJ :) Ricky had also never visited Switzerland previously, and so after a lot of careful planning and discussion, we decided on Switzerland.

Whilst in Switzerland, we had the opportunity to travel to a few other locations for the views and of course, more photos! Our next stop was Bern, which is the capital of Switzerland and can be found in the west of the country on the River Aare. Bern’s Old Town is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we entered Bern, we could feel the peace, ancient and gentle nature of this charming city. As time was limited, we weren't able to explore Bern fully, and had to quickly move along to a few other locations on our itinerary, and we decided to discover the stunning scenery and attractions of Lauterbrunnen valley.

The Lauterbrunnen valley is a breathtakingly beautiful valley located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. With dramatic cliffs, towering waterfalls and picturesque villages, Lauterbrunnen is one of the most stunning landscapes that I have ever come across. Following a super fun photo session, with the stunning backdrop, we made our way to have some tea and doughnuts. Okay, here's one thing. We'll 100% be going back to the exact location where we bought those doughnuts from. Those doughnuts were impeccable, no doubt.

Our trip also involved visiting Interlaken, the most beautiful place on earth, I swear. Interlaken is situated in the heart of the Bernese Oberland region, between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. The town is surrounded by mountains, including the famous Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch peaks. The Aare River flows through the town and several smaller streams also run through the area. For some history, the area around Interlaken has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but the town itself was founded in the 12th century. It grew in importance as a trading centre and became a popular tourist destination in the 19th century, when the first hotels were built. As you can imagine, neither of us wanted to leave Interlaken, the views were too good.

Although our time in Switzerland was quite limited, we made the most out of it. From the Srilankan homemade food we had on the very first day prepared by Akhila Chechi and Kumar Chettan to the morning views at Lauterbrunnen valley, Switzerland was filled with love, adventure, hope, and gratitude. A journey to remember, always :)
