The first time I visited Scotland was about two years ago with my sister. It was one of our very first trips together and a very special one indeed (see Postcard Journeys: Scotland). Recently, I returned with Ricky to visit his cousin Abin Chettan and his wife Julie Chechi, and their three adorable kids, and together we explored parts of the breathtaking Scottish Highlands. Visiting the Highlands had always been a dream of mine, so this trip felt especially meaningful.

I first fell in love with mountains and nature during my time in Wales, where I was studying for a Master’s in Clinical and Health Psychology. Most weekends, my friends and I would go hiking, and being based in North Wales meant we were spoiled for choice with beautiful trails. The dramatic landscapes and picturesque views of the Highlands instantly brought back memories of those days, reminding me just how much I cherish being surrounded by nature.

Before the trip, I had put together a simple itinerary of must-see spots in the Highlands, and we were thrilled to tick everything off the list. Some of the highlights included the Three Sisters of Glencoe and Lagangarbh Hut. One thing I was particularly excited about was seeing the famous Highland cows—and, to our surprise, they were the very first thing we spotted on our journey! Seeing them up close was incredible, and we even got the chance to feed them, which made the experience even more special.

Luckily for us, the weather that day was absolutely amazing, which made a huge difference to our journey. On our way to Glencoe, we stopped right in front of Lagangarbh Hut also known as the ā€œWee White Houseā€), and I was completely mesmerised. It genuinely looked like something straight out of a fairytale.

For some context, the Wee White House is a small, remote mountaineering hut nestled in the heart of Glencoe, surrounded by dramatic mountains and vast open landscapes. Its simple white exterior stands out so beautifully against the rugged terrain, making it one of the most photographed and iconic spots in the Highlands. Sitting there in such an isolated yet stunning setting, it almost felt unreal—like time had slowed down for a moment.

We loved what we saw and even walked down to the hut to take some pictures. We then made our way to the viewpoint overlooking the Three Sisters of Glencoe.

The Three Sisters of Glencoe are a trio of striking mountain ridges forming part of Bidean nam Bian above Glencoe Valley. Renowned for their dramatic scenery, they perfectly symbolise the wild beauty of the Highlands and are among Scotland’s most photographed landscapes. The site lies within the Glencoe National Nature Reserve, attracting hikers, climbers, and photographers year-round.

It’s a moment I’ll never forget, not just because of the views, but because of the adorable, curious kids in the car. They kept asking why it was called the ā€œThree Sistersā€ and not the ā€œThree Brothersā€ā€”or even ā€œtwo brothers and a sisterā€! Their questions had us all laughing, and it turned such a simple stop into something so memorable.

The picture below is one of my favourite views from the Highlands (and Julie chechi’s too). Even though I captured it on my iPhone, it doesn’t quite do justice to what I saw with my own eyes. I don’t even know the name of this spot, but somehow, that makes it even more special. It didn’t need a name to leave a mark—it was a moment, a feeling, a quiet kind of magic I’ll carry with me.

As I wrote at the start, I never thought I’d actually get the chance to visit the Highlands. It had been a dream of mine for such a long time—something I wished for deeply—until life moved on and, somehow, I forgot about it. And then, unexpectedly, it just happened.

That experience made me truly appreciate the power of chasing your dreams. Sometimes you have to pause them, put them aside for a while, or take a different path—but that doesn’t mean they’re gone. You can always come back to them, and one day, they can still become your reality.

I still have a big dream I’m waiting to achieve—something I’ve been holding onto for a long time. And I’m choosing to believe that I’ll get there too… and I’ll keep working for it until I do.
